About Judge Lucia Bates
Judge Lucia Bates has lived in East Harris County for more than 40 years and took the bench on January 1, 2019. Her earlier career was in business: she worked for Verizon (then GTE), spent more than ten years at the Houston Chronicle in advertising sales, then led advertising sales at Houston Community Newspapers and started her own advertising agency.
She holds a business degree from the University of Houston-Clear Lake and an MBA from the University of Phoenix, has chaired the North Channel Area Chamber of Commerce, and serves on several school-district and college advisory committees. After taking office she completed Justice of the Peace training that includes evictions.
