Understanding the process
Draft — awaiting attorney reviewWhich Fort Bend County Justice Court Hears Your Eviction?
In Texas, an eviction case is filed in the Justice of the Peace (JP) court for the precinct where the rental property is located. It is not about where you work or where your landlord's office is. Fort Bend County has four JP precincts and seven courts that hear evictions: Precinct 1 has two courts (Place 1 in Katy and Place 2 in Fulshear), Precinct 2 has two courts in Missouri City, Precinct 3 has two courts (Place 1 in Sugar Land and a new Place 2 in Needville), and Precinct 4 has one court in Richmond.
Fort Bend redrew its precinct lines effective January 1, 2026, so older lists that match ZIP codes or cities to precincts may be out of date. The most reliable places to check are the court papers you were served with, which show the court, and the county's current precinct map on the Fort Bend County website. You can also call the countywide JP information line at 281-342-3411.
Your own court's page on NeighborSTAND shows its address, hours, judge, and the constable's office for that precinct. The posted hours come from county web pages and have not all been confirmed by phone, so call before you travel, especially if a deadline is close.
Some precincts have two courts (Places). Your citation or hearing notice names the one that has your case. If the paperwork is unclear, call the court clerk and ask which court your case number is assigned to.
What to do.
Find the court named on your papers, save a photo of those papers in NeighborSTAND Documents, and add the court to your case in the app so your dates and reminders follow it.
Every eviction case is different, so it's always a good idea to confirm the details with a qualified legal advocate before making any decisions. NeighborSTAND's Resources page lists legal aid for Fort Bend County.
This is general information, not legal advice. Laws and court practices change and can differ by court. For help with your exact situation, talk to a legal aid advocate or an attorney.
